St. Thomas Wins TCIL Cage Title; 2/25/1952

San Antonio (AP) - St. Thomas of Houston won the Texas Catholic Interscholastic League basketball championship Sunday with a 48-47 victory over Central Catholic.  

Third place went to Price Memorial of Amarillo with a 58-50 decision over Jesuit of Dallas.  St. Anthony of San Antonio defeated Kirwin of Galveston, 47-34, to win the consolation bracket.

TCIL Forms Districts; 2/25/1952

San Antonio (AP) - Officials of the schools participating in the state Catholic Interscholastic League basketball tournament here met to pick a site for their basketball tournament, elect officers and form four districts for football.

The eastern division of the football setup will include Bishop Byrne of Port Arthur, St. Anthony of Beaumont, Kirwin of Galveston, St. Thomas of Houston and Jesuit of Dallas.  In the southern division will be St. Joseph's of Victoria, Corpus Christi Academy, St. Joseph's of Laredo, St. Joseph's of Brownsville and St. Louis of Castroville.

St. Edward's of Austin and Central Catholic and St. Gerard's of San Antonio will be members of the central division.  In the western division will be Cathedral of El Paso and Price Memorial of Amarillo.

The Rev. Matthew Sheedy of St. Thomas, Houston, was elected president and Brother Herbert Janson of Central Catholic, San Antonio, was chosen vice president.  Brother Eugene Gettinger of St. Mary's University was elected secretary-treasurer.

St. Thomas will be host team for the TCIL baseball meet the first part of May.  Other teams planning participation in the tourney are Corpus Christi Academy, St. Louis of Castroville, St. Edward's of Austin, St. Joseph's of Victoria, Jesuit of Dallas, Kirwin of Galveston and Central Catholic of San Antonio.
