1978 TAPS State Basketball Tournament

Three members of the Abilene Christian High School girls' basketball team and one from the boys' were named to the all-tournament teams in recently-completed state level Texas Association of Private Schools (TAPS) competitions.

Both ACHS teams won their respective state tournaments in from among the 36-school association, which he said was equivalent to Class A-AA size schools within the University Interscholastic League.  On Tuesday, he said the girls defeated Fort Worth Christian in the four-team tournament's final, with the boys whipping (Grand Prairie) Evnagel Temple in their title game after eliminating Garland Christian.

Girls making the all-tournament team were Phyllis Fletcher, Jane Estes and Tammy Shuford.  Gary Kramer was the boys' all-tournament selection.

The girls played Friday and Saturday at Fort Worth while the boys were competing at Dallas.
