1989 TAPS State Tennis: ACHS girls win TAPS state tennis tourney

WACO - The Abilene Christian High School girls won the Texas Association of Private Schools state tennis championships Saturday behind the doubles team of Bonnie Westmoreland and Tiffany Gilbreath.

Westmoreland-Gilbreath defeated Dallas Lake Hill's Brandy Wooldridge and Cari Gidcomn, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, to take the doubles title and help ACHS tack up part of its 34 first-place points.

Lake Hill finished second with 20, while T. K. Gorman was third with 16 points.

ACHS's Tonya Campbell made it to the finals of the singles division before bowing to Heather McAllister of San Antonio Christian, 6-4, 7-5.

Campbell beat Nina Rinehart of T.K. Gorman in the smeinfinals, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the finals.

Karmen Hill, also of ACHS, lost out in the semifinals to McAllister, 6-2, 6-0.

1989 TAPS State Tennis: Knights' Hall earns TAPS tennis berth

Brad Hall, a senior at Notre Dame, qualified for the Texas Association of Private Schools state tennis tournament for the second straight year Saturday by reaching the quarterfinals of the western regional tournament in Abilene.

Hall defeated Jonathan Van Rheenen of Abilene Christian 6-2, 6-0 before losing to Gordon Goad of Waco Christian 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

The state tournament will be April 21 in Waco.

1990 TAPPS State Tennis: IWA's Prejean captures TAPPS tennis crown

WACO - Incarnate Word's Michelle Prejean defeated teammate Kendall Snouffer for the singles championship during the Texas Association of Private and Parochial state meet here Saturday.

Prejean defeated Snouffer, 6-4, 7-6.

The IWA girls also won the TAPPS team title with a total of 28 points
