BF: Weatherford Christian Duo 5th in THSBA Action on Saturday

Three top 10 finishes were earned by Texas private and parochial school fishing teams at the 2019-2020 season opening Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) fishing tournament on Lake Ray Roberts on Saturday.

Weatherford Christian’s Bryson Smith and Boston Cox were fifth overall with 9.30 pounds of fish caught. 

Nathan Perry and Braden Geis of Crowley Nazarene Christian Academy were seventh after catching 8.84 pounds of fish while Fort Worth Covenant Classical’s Christian Grant and Triston Bowden were ninth with 7.56 pounds.

Teams from Azle Christian School, Mineral Wells Community Christian, and Fort Worth Christian also competed in the Lake Ray Roberts tournament.

Dylan Mosier and Rhett Parrish of Austin St. Stephen’s School were the highest finishing team from private and parochial schools as they were 38th at the Hill Country Division event on Lake Travis on Saturday.

The duo brought 3.99 pounds of fish in their boat, but were assessed a two-and-a-half-pound penalty dropping them 13 places.

At the East Division event on Lake Tyler, Tyler Grace Community School’s team of Caleb Carpenter and Garrett Melton finished 55th overall – one spot ahead of Bullard The Brook Hill’s Nolan Connor and Grayson Murry – with catches totaling 2.74 pounds.

The THSBA will host tournaments in the Houston, Northeast and North Texas divisions next Saturday, September 21 on Lake Houston, Lake O The Pines and Lake Ray Roberts.

There are nine (9) THSBA division across Texas.

Trinity Christian’s Andrew Wright and Reid Stacey were the top anglers at the 2018-2019 state championship tournament last May when they were 36th overall – catching 18.34 pounds of fish – out of 283 boats.
