2019-2020 Lutheran High School Soccer Awards Announced

August 7, 2020 – Nineteen girls’ high school soccer players from among the nearly 200 Lutheran high schools in the USA and Canada will receive the Lutheran All-American Association's (LAAA) 1st Team All-American Award. This honor will be awarded annually to recognize the best players at their respective positions from their high school season.

In all, 70 players across North America were named to the 1st Team, 2nd Team, Honorable Mention or Freshman Team High School All-American teams. At the end of the high school season Coaches and Athletic Directors nominate student-athletes with high athletic, academic, and spiritual integrity.

With the unusual closure of many schools/sports activities in the spring it is difficult to figure out how to honor players from partial and incomplete seasons. The LAAA board has decided to accept nominations from states where girl’s soccer is played in the spring. Players that were awarded LAAA All American status last year, if they were still participating on the team this season, they will be awarded at the same level they already received. The Board believes it would be unfair to deny them the honor when our historical records show repeat nominees maintaining (at least) the same level of recognition in successive seasons.

About the Lutheran All American Association

The LAAA is a unified Lutheran Association that brings together the student-athletes from all Lutheran denominations in the USA and Canada (LCMS, WELS, ELCA, and NALC) in an attempt to foster sisterhood forged through the fires of competition. The program promotes physical strength and health as well as an active pursuit of Christian ideals in high school student’s personal lives and education.

The LAAA High School Girl’s Soccer All-American Program and the Lutheran High School Girl’s Soccer Team Ethics & Sportsmanship Award are selected from all 189 Lutheran high schools in the USA and Canada. The high schools are contacted annually to submit nominees for the All American and Ethics & Sportsmanship Awards.

The LAAA All-American honor will be awarded annually to recognize the best players at their respective positions from their high school season. Head Coaches nominate student athletes with high athletic, academic, and spiritual integrity.

The LAAA Team Ethics & Sportsmanship honor is based on the accumulation of red and yellow cards throughout the season on a team basis.
