1989 TAPS State Tennis: ACHS girls win TAPS state tennis tourney

WACO - The Abilene Christian High School girls won the Texas Association of Private Schools state tennis championships Saturday behind the doubles team of Bonnie Westmoreland and Tiffany Gilbreath.

Westmoreland-Gilbreath defeated Dallas Lake Hill's Brandy Wooldridge and Cari Gidcomn, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, to take the doubles title and help ACHS tack up part of its 34 first-place points.

Lake Hill finished second with 20, while T. K. Gorman was third with 16 points.

ACHS's Tonya Campbell made it to the finals of the singles division before bowing to Heather McAllister of San Antonio Christian, 6-4, 7-5.

Campbell beat Nina Rinehart of T.K. Gorman in the smeinfinals, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the finals.

Karmen Hill, also of ACHS, lost out in the semifinals to McAllister, 6-2, 6-0.
