NEW COACHING HIRES

First reported by KCBD-TV sports director Pete Christy on Tuesday, June 21, Lubbock Christian High School hired former New Deal High School head baseball coach Jordan Terry to direct its baseball program.

Christy noted that he is replacing Brandon Walker, who departed to become the new hitting coach for the Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals.

The school added, "We believe Jordan will be a great asset to our Christ centered culture athletic program," and that he has seven years of coaching and teaching experience.

Athens Christian Preparatory Academy athletic director Ronnie Raines announced on Tuesday that the school has hired Hanner Shipley to start up its six-man football program, with its first game set for the start of the 2023 season.

Hanner, 25, is cousin of former Longhorn wide receivers Jordan and Jaxon Shipley and spent time at Marble Falls HS and Faith Academy before enrolling early at LSU and then transferring to ACU for '15 season.

He was second team All-Conference at Blinn in 2016 before playing his last two seasons at Louisiana Tech in 2017-2018.

Amarillo San Jacinto Christian Academy also reported on Tuesday, June 21 that Jamie Boyd will serve as the school's Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach.

Boyd has been coaching and providing personal training in the West Texas area since finishing his baseball career at West Texas A&M University in 2018.

He is a 2012 Wylie High graduate and also attended Frank Phillips College and Howard Payne before making his way to West Texas A&M.

“I was fortunate to be able to play baseball at the college level and have the experience to know what it takes for an athlete to compete," he said in the school's Facebook post, announcing his hire.  "My vision is to instill a strong sense of work ethic, teamwork and accountability that will lead to success in our programs, as well as in every area of life for all athletes at SJCA."

VOLLEYBALL

Dallas Bishop Lynch graduate Kylee Connally '22 announced on Wednesday that she has signed to play for the University of Hartford in Connecticut.  The Hawks were 7-18 in 2021 and compete in the America East Conference.

BASKETBALL

Colorado Christian University, which plays in the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, announced last Friday five newcomers to their men's basketball program, two of which are Texas private and parochial high school athletes.

Transferring from Northern Illinois University, former Houston Christian High School Noah Kon will be expected to compete at the guard position.  He said that he's "looking forward to competing and building a winning culture."

The Cougars were 8-20 in 2021-2022.

Dallas Bishop Lynch graduating senior Brice Davis, a 6'7" forward, will also join the mix in Lakewood, Colorado.

"I'm looking forward to the weather, growing relationships with my teammates, and the Christian environment," he said.

GOLF

Fort Worth Christian's Madison Ude was named on Thursday the girls' Private School Player of the Year by the North Texas High School Golf Coaches Association.

She was this year's TAPPS 5A state champion with a one-shot win over Victoria St. Joseph's Harper Edwards.

The boys award went to Frisco Legacy Christian Academy's Minas Manias, who was fourth at the TAPPS 5A state tournament just four shots off The Woodlands Christian Academy's Aaron Pounds.

BASEBALL

Former Houston Westbury Christian School Wildcat Dillon Thomas hit his first home run as a Sugar Land Space Cowboy Wednesday night after being signed by the Astros organization last week.

Thomas had been in the Angels organization before being designated for assignment after a brief call-up, his second, to the big league club.

It was his ninth home run of the season and it came against his former club, Tacoma, who he spent all of 2021 with.  He is currently hitting .300 in four games for Sugar Land and .296 for the season.
