7-ON-7 AND TABC SHOWCASE TAKES CENTER STAGE

TEXAS 7-ON-7 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Sugar Land Fort Bend Christian Academy won their opening bracket play contest in Division II on Friday with a 25-19 decision over Sealy before falling to Lago Vista 21-12.

In Division I pool play, Bellaire Episcopal took the top seed from a hotly-contested Pool G.

The Knights opened with a double overtime loss to Austin LBJ, 33-27, before bouncing back with a pair of wins over Katy Jordan (36-28) and Colleyville (20-18) to go 2-1.

With the win over Colleyville, who also finished 2-1, Episcopal earns the right to take on the second place team out of Pool O, The Woodlands, who also went 2-1 with wins over Prosper and Mission but fell to San Antonio Brandeis.

Episcopal squares off against The Woodlands at 8:45 a.m. today in College Station.

TAPPS 7-ON-7 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

After four last minute cancellations, dropping the number of competing teams to 23, TAPPS officials shuffled the schedule for a great day of play.

Eight teams advance to the Platinum and Gold brackets Saturday while the remaining seven go to the Silver Bracket.

Pool A - Argyle Liberty Christian (4-0), Houston Lutheran South (2-2), Fort Worth Christian (2-2), Tyler Grace Community (2-3), Houston St. Thomas (2-3), Regents School of Austin (1-3).

Pool B - Houston The Kinkaid School (3-1), The Woodlands Christian Academy (2-1), Austin St. Michael's Catholic (2-1), Midland Christian (1-2), Victoria St. Joseph (0-3)

Pool C - Arlington Grace Prep (3-1), Holy Cross of San Antonio (3-1), McKinney Christian Academy (3-1), Lubbock Christian (1-2), Bullard The Brook Hill School (1-3), Houston Northland Christian (0-3)

Pool D - Weatherford Christian School (4-0), Bryan Brazos Christian (4-1), Dallas First Baptist Academy (3-1), New Braunfels Christian Academy (2-3), Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic (1-4), Fort Worth Mercy Culture Prep (0-5)

Today's Platinum matchups feature:  Houston The Kinkaid School vs. Houston St. Thomas, The Woodlands Christian Academy vs. Fort Worth Christian, Houston Lutheran South vs. Austin St. Michael's Catholic and Midland Christian School vs. Argyle Liberty Christian.

The Gold bracket will see:  Weatherford Christian School vs. Lubbock Christian, Dallas First Baptist Academy vs. Holy Cross of San Antonio, Arlington Grace Prep vs. Bryan Brazos Christian and New Braunfels Christian Academy vs. McKinney Christian Academy.

And the Silver bracket gives Tyler Grace Community the first-round bye and the following three contests:  Victoria St. Joseph vs. Regents School of Austin, Houston Northland Christian vs. Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic and Fort Worth Mercy Culture Prep vs. Bullard The Brook Hill School.

Platinum and Gold bracket games start at 8:30 a.m. while those in the Silver bracket start at 9:30 a.m.

TAPPS 6-ON-6 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Like the 7-on-7, the 6-on-6 division saw two last-minute cancellations to drop the field to 11 -- one that was at 15 earlier in the week.

There will be an eight-team Platinum division and then the remaining three teams will play a round robin Saturday morning.

Pool A - Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy North and Fort Worth Covenant Classical both went 4-0, Bryan St. Joseph Catholic 2-2, Azle Christian School 2-3, Waco Eagle Christian Academy 1-3 and Fort Worth Bethesda Christian, in their first football action ever in school history, fought but went 0-5.

Pool B - Sugar Land Logos Preparatory swept their games with a 4-0 record.  Pasadena First Baptist Academy and Lucas Christian Academy both went 2-2, Austin Texas School for the Deaf goes 1-3 and Waco Vanguard College Preparatory was 0-4.

Platinum bracket games begin at 8:30 a.m. in Waco at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex and will see the following matchups:

+ Fort Worth Covenant Classical vs. Austin Texas School for the Deaf
+ Bryan St. Joseph Catholic vs. Lucas Christian Academy
+ Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy North vs. Pasadena First Baptist Christian Academy
+ Azle Christian School vs. Sugar Land Logos Preparatory Academy

Waco Eagle Christian Academy, Fort Worth Bethesda Christian and Waco Vanguard will compete in the Gold Round Robin.  Their first game is at 9:30 a.m.

TAPPS KICKING COMPETITIONS

Houston The Kinkaid School's Grant Petersen won the Field Goal contest, Houston St. Thomas' Michael Taylor the Kick-Off Contest and Blake Harmon of Tyler Grace Community Christian the Punt Contest.

COACHING MOVES

Lubbock Kingdom Prep announced Friday that West Texas Passing Academy founder Peter Griffith would be the school's next Varsity Football Coach.  Griffith is a KPA alum and was the school's varsity offensive coordinator from 2016-2018. 

He said on Twitter on Friday that he is "honored and humbled as KPA is home, and this is a dream job for me" and that he's "excited to get to work."

COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD

Two TAPPS athletes competing for Trinity University in San Antonio were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA III All-West Region team Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Ellie Catron from The Woodlands Christian Academy reclaimed her title as All-Region in the 3000-meter steeplechase while freshman Joy Areola from Tomball Rosehill Christian earned All-Region recognition from performances in the triple jump.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Dallas Jesuit alum and Texas A&M Aggie Jacob Palisch was named to the D1Baseball.com Second Team All-American squad after going 6-3 with a 2.39 ERA in 29 appearances for Texas A&M this year.

DIVING

The Woodlands John Cooper School's Morgan Robson, a junior (class of '24), was recognized by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) as one of the top 100 high school divers in the United States.

Robson is one of 17 Texans on the list -- and is the only private and parochial high school representative of those 17.

TRACK AND FIELD

Thursday evening, Dallas St. Mark's School of Texas graduate Sahil Dodda finished 8th in the 5000 meter race at the USA U20 Championship at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.  He ran to a new personal best of 14:28.84.

Bellaire Episcopal sophomore Madison Morgan was fourth overall in the women's 10K racewalk on Friday as she covered the distance in 55:52.54.  Coach Julius Michael noted that she was the youngest competitor in the field.

Georgia recruit and Austin St. Dominic Savio Catholic graduate Autumn Wilson qualified for the 100 meter final with a mid-afternoon effort of 11.38 that was first in her heat and fourth overall.

In the final, she was third overall in 11.14.  The Texas Track and Field Coaches Association noted that the wind was 2.7 m/s, which disallows it as Texas' fastest high school time ever at the distance.

TOYOTA USATF OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Texas' Crayton Carrozza, an Austin St. Stephen's alum, was fourth in his 800 meters heat Thursday evening (and fourth overall) in 1:46.64, but in Friday's semifinals, he failed to advance after finishing fifth in his heat in 1:47.80.

Houston The Kinkaid School alum Raevyn Rogers was second in her heat and fourth overall in the first round of the 800 meters with an effort of 2:01.10 and then was 9th overall in Friday's semifinals with a time of 2:01.15.  The 800 meters final will be close to 6 p.m. Central time on Sunday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Episcopal School of Dallas competed in the National High School Lacrosse Showcase, held this week in Columbia, Elkridge and Oakland Hills, MD.

The Eagles went 3-2 over Thursday and Friday.  ESD lost to Gilman, MD 8-5 and Loomis Chaffee CT 6-5 before winning 6-3 over Memphis University School (TN) on Thursday.

On Friday, they returned to post wins by scores of 7-6 and 9-5 over Potomac (MD) The Heights School and West Palm Beach (FL) Oakbridge Academy, respectively.

The Eagles' JV program went 2-3.

GYMNASTICS / TRAMPOLINE

Congratulations to Lubbock Trinity Christian freshman Chayce Welborn who competed in the USA Gymnastics Championships in the Double Mini Trampoline and took home the Silver Medal.  

Chayce competed against the top 66 female athletes in the country.

RECRUITING

Houston Strake Jesuit running back Giacomo Valente, a 6', 205-pound senior, announced on Twitter Friday that he had received an offer from NCAA Division III Grinnell College in Iowa.

Additionally, Tanner Zieman, the 5'10", 180-pound running back/athlete from Fort Worth Southwest Christian reported an offer from NAIA Arizona Christian University, which competes in the Sooner Athletic Conference with Southwestern Assemblies of God, Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist and Texas College.

MISCELLANEOUS

Episcopal School of Dallas '19 Jack Betts was named to lead NESCAC communications for the Council of Amherst College Student Athletes of Color in addition to representing the school as its Student-Athlete Delegate at the NIL Summit.
