Cathedral Off For Catholic Cage Tourney; 3/4/1942

Coach Bob Carson and nine Cathedral High School basketball players will leave by bus at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning for San Antonio, where Friday and Saturday in St. Mary's University gymnasium they intent to retain their perennial group on the Texas Catholic High School basketball title by winning the Texas Catholic tournament for the fifth successive year.

The Cathedrals open Friday night against St. Joseph's of Laredo.  Entered in the tournament will be about a dozen Catholic High School, all of them with first rate basketball teams.  But Cathedral, champions five times in the last six years and runner-up the sixth, will, as usual, rank a heavy favorite.

Players making the trip are Paul Juen, Joe Juen, Raul Mariscal, Santos Perez, George Mertz, Walter Eisert, Guy Eveler, George Concha and Oscar Barreda.  The Cathedrals will put up Wednesday night in Del Rio and arrive at St. Mary's in San Antonio Thursday in plenty oftime for a brisk work-out and unlimbering.
