Six Teams Remain in Catholic Tournament; 3/2/1940

San Antonio, Texas, March 2 (AP) -- Six teams remained in the battle for the state Catholic High School basketball championship today, two of them to be eliminated by noon.

St. Henry's of San Antonio met St. Mary's of Port Arthur and Cathedral of El Paso clashed with St. Joseph's of Laredo this morning.

The Port Arthur-San Antonio winner meets Beaumont in the semifinals tonight.  The winner of the El Paso-Laredo tilt clashes with Central Catholic of San Antonio in the other semifinal game.

Beaumont and Central drew byes in the first round and last night moved into the semifinals with victories over St. Joseph's of Dallas and St. Joseph of Brownsville respectively, the scores being 11-8 and 34-14.

El Paso defeated St. Edward's of Austin 28-12, St. Mary's won over St. Joseph's of Victoria 23-20, St. Joseph's of Laredo downed St. Joseph's of Yoakum 37-19 and Port Arthur trimmed Galveston 31-23.
