Cathedral Claims Second in TCIL; 12/2/1979

DALLAS -- El Paso Cathedral High finished second behind Houston Strake Jesuit, 44-66, in the TCIL state cross country boys' championship here Saturday morning.

Senior Pete Felix paced the Irish with a fourth place finish in a time of 9:58 and senior Alex Carrillo was 10th at 10:22.

Cathedral's other finishers were Joe Martinez 12th; Doug Cohessey, 15th and Mike Gonzalez, 25th.  The Irish, who finished third at state last year, are coached by Ray Gomez and Felix Hinojosa.

Team Standings -- 1.  Houston Strake Jesuit 44, 2.  Cathedral 66, 3.  Houston St. Thomas 88, 4.  Dallas Jesuit 96, 5.  Dallas Bishop Dunne 147, 6.  Waco Reicher 160, 7.  Beaumont Kelly 217.

Individual finishers -- 1.  Moore, Jesuit, 9:37; 2.  Bean, Strake Jesuit, 9:42; 3.  Francisco Melendez, 9:48; 4.  Pete Felix, Cathedral, 9:58; 5.  Tom Berkeley, Strake Jesuit, 10:02; 6.  Chris Campbell, Bishop Dunne, 10:05; 7.  Paul Gomez, Strake Jesuit, 10:09; 8.  Paul Starke, St. Thomas, 10:16; 9.  Alan Dolberg, 10:20; 10.  Alex Carrillo, Cathedral, 10:22.
