Van Hires Girls Head Basketball Coach; 6/9/2004

Van High School recently hired Larry Hargett as its new head coach for girls' basketball.

Hargett came from Fort Bend Bush High School where he was the head gofl coach from 2002-2004.

Hargett's experience dates all the way to 1976, where he led Houston Strake Jesuit's boys basketball team to the state championship, and again in 1977.  In 1978, he coached Houston Cypress Fairbanks to the state semifinals.

He hold a 268-184 record as a head basketball coach.

He was named the Texas Private School Basketball Coach of the Year in both 1976 and 1977, and was given the Texas High School Basketball Coach of the Year award in 1978.

Hargett was also the head coach of the Texas High School All Stars team that competed in Akron, Ohio in 1977.

After spending five years as head women's tennis coach at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Hargett was hired as an assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University in 1982, where he was a head recruiter until 1985.
