Using the sixth pick of the 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Dallas Jesuit College Prep shortstop - and Vanderbilt commit - Jordan Lawlar on Sunday.

+ In the Futures Game played earlier in the day at Coors Field as part of MLB's All-Star Game activities, Tomball Concordia Lutheran High School alum Shane Baz - currently with the AAA Durham Bulls - was the first reliever out of the AL bullpen retired all three batters he faced, including two strikeouts, using just 10 pitches (eight of which went for strikes).  @MLBPipeline noted that Baz had fired a first pitch of 98.5 miles per hour. 

+ Dallas St. Mark's School of Texas grad '21 Harrison Ingram was a member of the USA team that won the Gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Latvia this past week.  Ingram played in all seven games, averaging 4.6 points per game while playing 17.5 minutes per contest.  He saw the most action - 29 minutes - in the semifinal win over Canada where he scored eight points.  He had seven rebounds against Mali in the group phase.  USA won the Gold with an 83-81 win over France.

+ Joseph Garcia announced on Twitter on Saturday that he was leaving Garland Christian Academy to accept the athletic director and head football coach positions at Covenant Christian School in Conroe.

+ Saturday, Universidad Catolica De Murcia (@UCAMMurcia) announced that it has resigned Arlington Grace Prep alum Sadiel Rojas for his eighth season on the team's Endesa League entry.  Rojas is UCAM Murcia's all-time leader in games played (228) and rebounds (1,038).  He helped Oklahoma Wesleyan University win the 2009 NAIA Division II National Championship and seven years later was inducted to the school's Sports Hall of Fame.

+ Speaking of Grace Prep alums, Isaiah Austin, a first round pick of the Enemies in the NBA's BIG3 three-on-three league, scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Enemies' 51-46 loss to the Power on Saturday in Las Vegas.  Austin has previously played professionally in at least six different countries the last five years.

+  Trinity University has been announcing additions to the Tigers cross country and track and field programs for 2021-2022 and numerous private and parochial high school athletes will be attending school there in the fall.  They include:

- Northland Christian School's Abbie Wietstruck (announced 7/1/21)
- Fort Worth Southwest Christian School's Jared Gallagher (announced 7/6/21)
- Fort Worth Nolan Catholic's Jude Hardee (announced 7/10/21)
- Bellaire Episcopal's Elizabeth McLauchlin (announced 7/11/21)

+  The McKinney Courier-Gazette on Sunday named McKinney Christian Academy's 15-14 come-from-behind win TAPPS Division quarterfinal baseball win over Houston's Emery/Weiner School its "Best Game" for 2020-2021.  The Mustangs were down 14-1 after four innings and used 17 hits to trigger the 14-run onslaught that produced the win.

+ Last Wednesday, Dallas St. Mark's School of Texas alum and former University of Texas and NFL linebacker Sam Acho signed a multi-year deal to join ESPN’s comprehensive college football coverage, primarily serving as a lead studio voice on college football Saturdays on ESPN2. Acho will also call select college football matchups this fall.

+ Last Tuesday, Plano John Paul II announced Mario Edwards, Sr. as its fourth head coach in school history as George Teague will be completely devoted to his role as the school's athletic director.

+ ESPN 300 Updated Recruiting Rankings for Class of 2022 finds Argyle Liberty Christian S Cristian Driver (6'0", 180) as the only private and parochial school player ranked - at #172 - among 47 Texas high schoolers.

Among the Class of 2023, Dallas Parish Episcopal School athlete Daniel Demery (5'11", 195) is at #188, Fort Worth Nolan Catholic DE Kaleb James (6'4", 245) is at #224 and Colleyville Covenant Christian DE Enow Etta is at #238 in a group of 39 Texans.

+  At the Brooks PR Invitational Meet in Seattle on Friday, July 2nd, 

- The Woodlands Christian Academy grad Ben Shearer ran the mile in 4:19.52.
- Austin St. Dominic Savio junior Autumn Wilson was third in the 100-meter dash in 11.39, out of the top spot by .02 seconds.
- Austin St. Dominic Savio junior Hali Murphy was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 53.23.

+ At the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field from Wednesday, June 30 to Sunday, July 3rd,

- Bellaire Episcopal senior Kat Kwiatowski was 10th overall in the 800-meter dash in 2:10.81.
- Incoming Bellaire Episcopal freshman Madison Morgan set the 3000-meter racewalk meet and Hayward Field records with a winning time of 14:12.66, defeating her closest competitor by 23-plus seconds.
