Bellaire Episcopal freshman Madison Morgan won on Thursday the 3000 meter racewalk at The Outdoor Nationals in 14:12.66 that was held at Hayward Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.  She will compete again on Thursday, July 1 at the AAU Region 17 regionals here in the greater Houston area.

+ Tomball Concordia Lutheran alum Shane Baz has been selected to play for the American League in the All-Star Futures Game.  Baz plays for Triple-A Durham in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

+ Dallas Jesuit shortstop Jordan Lawlar on Tuesday was named Tuesday as Texas' Gatorade Player of the Year becoming third Ranger in the last 11 years to do so, joining Josh Bell '11 and Kyle Muller '16.  The senior finished his 2021 campaign with a .412 batting average, 40 hits, five doubles, four triples, six home runs and a team-leading 37 RBI to go along with 32 stolen bases.  Lawlar is a Vanderbilt commit who is now in consideration for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.

+ Bellaire Episcopal alum Tanner Witt, fresh off his appearance for the Texas Longhorns in the College World Series last week, will suit up this summer for the USA Collegiate National Team that will play an 11-game schedule over the next two weeks in a lot of Appalachian League ballparks across Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia.

+ Congratulations to San Antonio Antonian's Kyte McDonald and Houston The Kinkaid School's Stone Simmons, both freshman, for being members of the latest NCAA Division I Baseball champion at Mississippi State University after the Bulldogs won the best-of-3 College World Series from Vanderbilt, two games to one.

+ Courtesy of Longview News-Journal's Thomas Bingham, former TAPPS 1A state golf individual champion Rhett Sellers of Trinity School of Longview and now a freshman at Rutgers University used a birdie 4 to win a four-golfer sudden death playoff at the U.S. Amateur qualifier at Gladewater's Tempest Golf Club.  Earlier he tied a course record with a round of 65 from championship tees, according to Bingham.

+ Dallas Bishop Lynch track and field reported that senior Owen Williamson vaulted 14'8" at today's first day of the AAU Region 18 track and field meet in Arlington, giving him the Friars school record in the event.

+ Beaumont Kelly announced on Wednesday it was hiring former Major Leaguer, Texas Aggie and Beaumont West Brook alum Jason Tyner to take over its baseball program.  Over parts of eight seasons in the big leagues, Tyner hit .275 while playing for the New York Mets, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and his final game in 2008 with Cleveland.

+ Mansfield Lakeridge 1B/OF Jordan Shepherd announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he was transferring to Fort Worth Southwest Christian School for his senior season.  Southwest Christian School lost the Division II championship in May to Houston Lutheran South Academy.

+ Announcing via Twitter early Wednesday morning, Colton Chumbley stated that he has accepted the athletic director and head football coaching positions at San Antonio St. Gerard.

+ Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington announced that former El Paso Cathedral roundballer Leo Gerardo would be transferring to the school from Arizona Western College for his sophomore season.  In 14 contests this past season, Gerardo started 13 of 14 games, averaging 8.4 points per game, while shooting 44 percent from the field and 47 percent from beyond the arc and averaging 24.3 minutes per contest.
