LSCSN News and Notes; July 16, 2021

In Thursday's play at the 149th British Open, Dallas Jesuit alum Jordan Spieth was tied for second, 7 under par, with Louis Oosthuizen, two shots off the lead held by Collin Morikawa.  Addison Trinity Christian grad Will Zalatoris withdrew after an opening round 69, good for one under par, as his agent reported that he had shooting pain down his leg after hitting out of the rough on 15.  Houston The Kinkaid School grad and University of Texas golfer Cole Hammer, competing as an amateur, had an opening round 75, five over par.

+ Episcopal High School announced on Thursday, July 15 that former three-time IWCLA First Team All-American and two-time IWLCA Division III Attacker of the Year from Franklin & Marshall College Paige Moriarty will lead the Knights girls lacrosse program.  The Glen Ridge, New Jersey native came to Episcopal last year after serving two years as an assistant lacrosse coach and recuriting coordinator for the Mammoths of Amherst College.

Additionally, Episcopal also promoted Shaun Flood to the head swimming and diving coach position.  Flood played four years of water polo at Loyola Marymount University, helping lead LMU to three WWPA championships and playing in three NCAA Final Four championships.  He also later coached both at Whittier College in California and at his alma mater, LMU, in assistant coaching roles.

+ Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine's Matt Stepp reported earlier this morning, Friday, July 16, that Dallas South Oak Cliff would play Spring Legacy School of Sports Sciences on Saturday, August 28 at 6 p.m. at John Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.

+ Lubbock Trinity Christian School Advancement Director Matthew Bullen noted on Thursday, July 15 that former Lion roundballer Ashton Duncan was one of 107 NCAA Division II nominees for NCAA's Woman of the Year.

+ Jewish Herald-Voice reported on Thursday, July 15 that Emery/Weiner School head football coach and assistant athletic director Jason Reimers will be in his last season with the school as he will be moving closer to family in San Antonio next year.  Samuel Castello will take over in both roles in the 2022-2023 season.

+ Dallas Greenhill School's Athletic Department congratulated Hayden Goodman '24 for being recognized by Top Drawer Soccer at the ECNL Girls Soccer National Playoffs as one of the top 30 standouts playing for FC Dallas U15.

+ Houston The Kinkaid School's Athletic Department noted that Abygail Deverka '24 and Merritt Skubisz '25 were selected by USA Field Hockey to attend the U-16 Selection Camp that will be held during December 2021/January 2022.  

Also on the list was Houston St. John School's '24 midfielder Kristina Johnson.

+ Meanwhile, Houston St. John's School's Athletic Department reported that Sloan Davidson '22 and Tyler Kennedy '21 (Virginia) were named by USA Field Hockey to the Rise Selection Camp that will choose the 2022 Rise USWNT.  

Also on the list was Houston The Kinkaid School's '23 midfielders Mia Abello and Hope Haynes

+ Houston St. Thomas' Media Relations Department noted that alum Everett Vaughn '18 was given jersey number 12 for the 2021-2022 Texas A&M men's basketball season.

+ Recent Dallas Jesuit College Prep grad and infielder Drew Messick announced on Twitter on Thursday, July 15 that he would be playing baseball next spring for McLennan Community College.
