Less than a minute and six places between a senior and a freshman gave the host Incarnate Word Academy girls the win in their own 12th annual IWA Invitational at the Willow Waterhole Greenway Park on Saturday morning.

IWA, fifth at last year's TAPPS 6A state meet, held off The Woodlands Christian Academy, third in TAPPS 5A, by six points, 50 to 56, for the girls crown.

Fourteen schools, all but one private, had runners in the girls varsity 3,200 meter race, while eight of those schools ran at least five runners to score as a team.

Spring Frassati Catholic senior Ashlyn Miller dominated the 58-competitor field with a 33-second win by posting a two-mile time of 12:23 -- a 27-second pick up from her 15th place overall finish at last November's TAPPS 5A state meet.

In doing so, she bested Houston Second Baptist sophomore Lauren Baker, who was second at the TAPPS 5A state meet and finished today in 12:56.
