Nineteen points separated the top four teams at last November's TAPPS 6A state cross country meet.

And four of Houston St. Agnes Academy's top five runners in fourth place were seniors.

In fact, just two - juniors Anna Williams and Chloe Newport - of those who ran on the makeshift course on the grounds of Midway ISD were on the starting line Friday at Pearland Dawson's Will Sirmon Invitational.

But the Tigers made a good accounting of themselves to open up the 2021 cross country season by winning the Pearland meet by nine points over one of Katy ISD's newer schools Jordan.

Even though Klein took the top three individual spots, St. Agnes's scoring five all finished in the top 15 for the win.

Lily Swarts was fifth overall with a two-mile time of 12:52.6.

Williams and Marin Goebel paired off for 11th and 12th in 13:08.4 and 13:09.2, respectively.

Kayla Rivera and Newport rounded out the contribution to the victory with 15th and 18th place finishes in 13:18.7 and 13:21.9.

The Tigers took full advantage of running ten and Harmon Fisher, Morgan Leaman, Gabi Paniagua, Amanda Butz and Izzy Luna were all less than a minute off of Newport.

St. Agnes crushed the competition in the junior varsity race with 28 points next to Klein's 70.
