Fort Worth Christian and Dallas Lakehill Prep were the only private schools competing at the Birdville Early Bird Invitational on Thursday, August 12, but both schools performed well.

Dallas Lakehill Prep junior Avery Owen was the girls overall winner in the 3,200 meters in 12:16.91 -- 15 seconds ahead of second place.  Owen was second overall at TAPPS' 3A state meet last November.

Fort Worth Christian's boys were seventh out of eight scoring teams, while the girls didn't have the five runners necessary to score as a team.

Freshman Hunter Hinrichsen was the leading Cardinal covering the 3,200 meter course in 11:58.45, good for 19th overall.

Senior Jackson Aschenbeck was 33rd overall in 12:28.54 while Lakehill Prep junior Ellis Meyer was seven spots back in 40th in 12:58.61.

Freshman Chase Hinrichsen, sophomores Luke Reed, Joshua Lee and Braden Cunningham rounded out the Cardinal runners.

The Cardinal girls were led by freshman Grace Dale, who stopped the clock in 16:15.04.

She was followed across the line by juniors Hannah Eller and Audry Klein.
