LSCSN News and Notes; June 10, 2021

Houston Kinkaid and Bellaire Episcopal will be competing in the Dayton 7 on 7 state qualifying tournament on Saturday in Dayton, which is being hosted by former Houston St. Pius X and Dallas Greenhill head coach Blake Ware who leads the Broncos now.  Episcopal will compete in pool play against Houston Heights, Cy-Fair and Port Arthur Memorial while Kinkaid tussles with Spring Westfield, Cleveland and Humble Atascocita.

Meanwhile, Plano Prestonwood Christian and Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal will be competing in the Arlington Lamar qualifier on Saturday.  Plano Prestonwood Christian is in the same pool at Arlington, Denton Guyer and Irving MacArthur while Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal draws Lake Dallas, Denton Braswell and Frisco.

+  Houston Kinkaid great and Texas Longhorn golfer Cole Hammer has now qualified for next week's U.S. Open after a golfer from Finland withdrew.  Kirk Bohls reporting that he was a first alternate at a qualifying tournament in Columbus, Ohio recently.

+  Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy alum Julius Randle of the New York Knicks was eighth overall in the 2020-21 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award balloting.  Randle received one third place vote, two fourth place votes and nine fifth place votes.  One hundred and one ballots were cast.  Late last month, Randle was awarded the League's Most Improved Player for 2020-2021.  There he was a near unaminous selection with 98 of 100 first place votes.

+  Despite struggling at the plate so far this year, batting .159 in 26 games, former Beaumont Kelly star and Rice University alum Ford Proctor hit a solo home run in the second inning Tuesday night in the Montgomery Biscuits' 5-2 win over the Birmingham Barons.  Proctor is playing at the AA level for the first time after batting .290 with six homers and 53 RBIs at full season A Bowling Green in 2019.

+  The Midland Reporter-Telegram reported that Midland Christian School grad and senior volleyball player Megan Ashton was chosen by the Lone Star conference as UT-Permian Basin's 2020-2021 women's scholar-athlete award winner for the second straight year.  

They noted that the LSC gives the award annually to one male and one female at each member school.
