Houston Strake Jesuit lost to Keller in the UIL 6A state baseball semifinals by a score of 7 to 1 at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock while Crusaders alum MATTHEW BOLING was 6th overall in the 100 meters in a time of 10.19 in his first ever NCAA outdoor championship appearance at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

+  Episcopal School of Dallas continues to provide new head coaches with opportunities as the school elevates JANA JEFFREY from the JV head coach position.  After winning four state championships at Ursuline Academy of Dallas and playing collegiately at Boston College, Jeffrey has spent the past six years teaching and coaching at Greenhill, Parish Episcopal and ESD.

+  Arlington Grace Prep also announced on Friday via its Twitter feed @GracePrepTX a new girls head basketball coach in CASEY BOYD.  

From truetexashoops.com, Coach Casey is a 2000 graduate of Palo Duro High School. She was a member of the 5A State Championship runner-up team in 1998, named 1st Team All-State (Jr/Sr), named All-District and District MVP (Jr/Sr), and named to the MVP of the Super Team (Sr). Casey was also a member of the West Texas Flyers AAU team, which won three National Championships in a row, and she was named to the AAU National All-American team.

A graduate of Texas Tech University (‘05) with a Master’s Degree in Accounting and General Business, Casey was a four-year basketball letter winner. As a Lady Raider, she was known for her ability to defend the best player on the other team. Casey was named to the First Team Big 12 All-Academic Team (’02, ’03, ‘04).

+  Liberty University reported on Friday that former Bellaire Episcopal star TRINITY WATTS made the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association's second team All-State University Division volleyball team for 2020-2021.  Watts started all 47 sets of the 14 matches that the Flames played as they battled to a 5-9 mark in the 2021 spring season.  She led Liberty in kills (2.91/set) and points (3.50/set).  Watts will be a sophomore for the 2021 fall season.

+  With an assist from @stjohnsmavs, Northwestern University midfielder and St. John's School '16 LINDSAY MCKONE was named to the second team of the ILWCA 2020 Division I All-American team on Tuesday.  McKone was a first team All-Big Ten selection this year as she started in all 16 of the Wildcats' contests, scoring 44 points on 27 goals and 17 assists for a team that went 15-1.

+  Speaking of St. John's School, EMMANUEL SGOUROS lowered the school's 3200 meter school record by posting a time of 9:01.71 at the RunningLane Track Championships in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday.  He was seventh overall in a loaded field where the winning time was 8:56.309.

+  Wednesday night, Houston Westbury Christian alum DILLON THOMAS, after being called up a day earlier, got the start in right field for the Seattle Mariners and made the best of it.  Thomas was 1-for-5 with a two-run single and scored two runs in his debut that came as part of a 9-6 win over the Detroit Tigers in Comerica Park.  He did not see action in Thursday's series finale.

+  Fort Worth Christian alum JAY MARSHALL, a 6-3, 225-pound sophomore who played 12 games for Harding University's defensive line in the 2019 season with 25 tackles and 6.5 for loss and four sacks, earned a spot on the 2020-21 NCAA Division II Academic All-Super Region 3 Team as selected by the CoSIDA on Thursday.  To earn the award, Marshall had to carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher.

+  Texas Hoops / GreatAmericanShootOut.com released its latest Class of 2023 Top 150 rankings on Thursday.  Below is the listing of all non-UIL athletes in TexasHoops/GASO's rankings:

+  A handful of private and parochial teams were in action in a couple of 7-on-7 state qualifying tournaments.

In the Cuero SQT, Fort Bend Christian went 2-1 beating Salado, 19-14, and Austin LBJ 18-13 before falling to Cuero, 22-13.  Cypress Christian dropped all three of its contests, losing to Cameron Yoe, 28-12, El Campo, 27-7 and Smithville, 14-6.

In the Arlington Martin SQT, Plano Prestonwood Christian defeated Denton Guyer, 32-14, and one other team before losing a tight contest to Arlington High, 41-36.  Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal defeated Lake Dallas, 14-6, but dropped a pair to Frisco, 28-26, and Richardson Pearce, 26-19.
