LSCSN News and Notes; June 15, 2021

Not exactly Texas private and parochial high school athletics, but our congratulations to TCU on their staying in-house and hiring KIRK SAARLOOS to replace Jim Schlossnagle, who left the Horned Frogs to become the new baseball coach at Texas A&M.

+  Dallas St. Mark's School of Texas named HARRY FLAHERTY as its new head football coach.  A three-year starter at Princeton, he's been the head football coach at Lawrenceville School in New Jersey since 2015.

+  Congratulations to Dallas Jesuit senior GORDON SCHMERBECK for being named to the North Texas High School Golf Coaches Association Honor Team.  He was one of 20 selections.

+  Regents School of Austin's CADE BARONE wins the two-round STPGA Summer Showdown at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin on Tuesday with a three-stroke win over Mansfield High School and Midwestern State signee RYAN BAILEY.  Fellow Regents School alum and Texas State golf signee Hayes Hutton was five strokes back all alone in fourth place.

+  Dallas' The Hockaday School announced on Tuesday that MINJE KWUN ‘22 was named a USA Lacrosse All American and AVA BERGER ‘21 was recognized as a USA Lacrosse All Academic team member, two of the highest awards in high school from USA Lacrosse!

+  A handful of private school teams are converging on Grapevine Thursday through Saturday to compete in the Texas Summer State Championships, produced by Colleyville Heritage coach Kevin Starnes.  Boys 5A/6A will include Midland Christian, Boys 4A will feature Denton Liberty Christian while Boys 3A has Fort Worth Country Day competing and Denton Calvary Academy and Lucas Christian in Boys 1A/2A.  

Houston Strake Jesuit will send a pair of JV teams and be joined by a Denton Liberty Christian JV squad.  There are no private and parochial high school girls teams competing in the two Girls divisions.

+  University of Central Arkansas sophomore and Houston Lutheran South Academy alum KOLBY JOHNSON, an outfielder, was named to the 2021 Southland Conference All-Academic team.  Johnson's carries a 3.96 GPA in finance and graduated with a degree in finance.  He was UCA's third-leading hitter with a .305 batting average, and had 50 hits with 27 runs batted in and stole a team-high five bases.

+  According to Jesuit College Prep sports information department, two members of the Jesuit Dallas baseball team, senior DREW MESSICK and senior TUCKER HUHN, will compete at the North Texas All-Star game on Tuesday, June 15 at The University of Texas at Arlington. Selected to represent the top student-athletes across the metroplex area, the two NCAA Division I-bound seniors will compete among the best in the region following stellar 2021 campaigns.

+  The Texas High School Lacrosse League, North District reported via its website on Tuesday that Austin St. Andrew's Episcopal School is seeking a boys' lacrosse program director for the 2021-2022 school year.  The job description can be found here at the St. Andrew's website.
