LSCSN News and Notes; June 11, 2021

Wednesday night, pitching in front of his hometown folks at Riders Field in Frisco, former Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy hurler Jonathan Heasley went five innings, striking out six and earned his second win of the season as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 7-4 on the road Wednesday night.  

Heasley, recently mentioned in a MLB.com article as a potential trade chip for the parent Kansas City Royals organization, now holds a 2.62 ERA on the young MILB season.  Wednesday night was his seventh start of the season.  He was 8-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 2019 for Lexington in the full Class A South Atlantic League.  

He was appreciative of the show of support from the PCA community Wednesday night saying via his Twitter feed, "Awesome night, big thank you to all of the family and friends that came out to support. Much love."

+  Houston The Kinkaid School junior Allyn Stephens won the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Shreveport Junior tournament on Thursday with a three-round score of 209, seven shots under par and three strokes ahead of Fort Worth's Savannah Barber.  

Austin Lake Travis junior Kate Pickrell was one stroke behind Stephens going into Thursday's play, but ended up fourth seven strokes behind Stephens.

+  Former Houston Strake Jesuit great and University of Georgia freshman Matthew Boling ran a 10.15 100 meters and will advance despite being third in his heat behind former Conroe Tiger and Florida State sophomore JoVaughn Martin and USC's Davonte Burnett.  

The top three times outside of the top two from each heat and Boling's time was the best of those.  The men's 100 meter final will be on Friday at 5:52 p.m.

+  The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) announced on Wednesday that former Kent State athlete Aaron Kinebrew will be presenting the keynote speech, Rachel’s Challenge, at next month's TAPPSCON 2021. This is the inspiring story of Rachel Scott whose example of kindness and acceptance was brought to light when she became the first victim in the Columbine High School tragedy. Conveyed through stories from Rachel’s life and writings, Rachel’s Challenge shows the profound positive impact we can have on those around us.

+  Austin St. Andrew's Episcopal alum and Centre College freshman Ethan Hanna was a member of the 12-2 men's lacrosse team that reached the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament where they lost 19-6 to Colorado College after an opening round 12-11 win over Denison.  The team achieved a final season-ending ranking of #13 from Lacrosse Magazine. 

Hanna appeared in five contests for the Colonels with a goal in the March 10 contest against Hanover that Centre College won 12-4.

+  Beaumont Kelly alum and University of St. Thomas freshman cross country athlete Grace Leduc was recognized as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's 13th annual All-Sportmanship team.  Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who exhibited good sportsmanship throughout the season. At the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season, Kelly was one of 12 Celts to receive SCAC All-Sportsmanship honors.

+  MAX Field Hockey released its Class of 2023 player rankings on Thursday and six athletes from the Southwest Preparatory Conference were represented.  One of the top 10 juniors-to-be is The Houston Kinkaid School's Hope Haynes, a midfielder for the Falcons.  

Teammate Mia Abello, a defender and midfielder, was recognized in the Top 50.  Two SPC athletes were in the Top 100, including Kinkaid midfielder/forward Kyle Massey and Austin St. Stephen's Episcopal School midfielder Aoibhin Murdoch.  

Oklahoma City Casady School forward/midfielder Riley Dumigan and Houston St. John's School forward Madison Kim were named to the Watch List.

+  Bryan Allen Academy senior Calvin Williams will be signing his NCAA Division III signing document to play basketball at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday, June 14, 2021 in the school's SEC Gymnasium.  

Student athletes at NCAA Division III schools are allowed to sign their signing document after they've been accepted into the member institution.  NCAA Division III schools are not allowed to publicize the signing until the student-athlete has submitted a financial deposit.

+  Six Brownsville St. Joseph Academy Bloodhounds were selected to the Rio Grange Valley Coaches Association 4A, 3A and 2A All-Star Football Team recently.  Those honored include:  TE Tomas Edge, WR Lucky Edge, DB Sean Teo Ong, RB Melik Kauachi, OT Blake Fowlkes and DL Sergio Martinez.
