LSCSN News and Notes; June 25, 2021

Houston The Kinkaid School alum Raevyn Rogers was first in her heat of the 800 meters at the United States Olympic Track & Field Trials at Eugene, Oregon's Hayward Field in a time of 2:00.75.  She'll be joined by 15 other women into two eight-women semifinals heats that will be contested on Friday at 5:02 p.m. Central time.

+ The Woodlands Christian Academy opened up Texas State 7-on-7 action in College Station on Thursday with a 27-13 win over Hamshire-Fannett before dropping a 26-20 contest to Brownwood, but earned the top spot out of Pool F with an 18-14 win over Argyle.  TWCA will open bracket play against the Ricebirds of El Campo at 8:45 a.m.

Midland Christian opens play on Friday in Division I as they'll square off against College Station A&M Consolidated, Denton Guyer and Klein Cain.

+ The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 7-on-7 State Tournament commences on Friday at Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal School.  Pool play as well as the Lineman Challenge and Kicking competition will be contested on Friday with Bracket Play on Saturday.

+ Dallas Bishop Lynch announced on Wednesday that it was lifting the interim tag that Shea Jenkins has held since May and named him as its new head volleyball coach, replacing Tricia Roos.  

Lynch Athletics Director Allie Tennyson said in its release that "Coach Jenkins has shown tremendous leadership while serving as the interim head volleyball coach. His technical know-how, indomitable spirit and ability to lead – both his coaching staff and our Friar student-athletes – gives me complete confidence that he will uphold our volleyball program's tradition of excellence."

+ Plano John Paul II named former Frisco Liberty head coach Fred Kaiser as its new varsity boys head soccer coach on Thursday.  He replaces Rusty Oglesby and becomes the school's fifth head coach in school history.

+ Northwestern University sophomore-to-be and Houston The Kinkaid School '20 alum Annabel Skubisz has been selected to the USA U22 Series team for USA Field Hockey that will take on Chile in a four-game series at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia next week.

+ Richardson Pearce 6'6" small forward Liam McNeeley announced on Twitter on Thursday that he was attending Plano John Paul II to play basketball in the 2021-2022 season.

+ Former Plano Prestonwood Christian Academy star Ryan Cash went 1-for-4 in his professional minor league baseball debut with the Gary SouthShore RailCats in their 8-2 loss Tuesday night to Kane County.  Gary is a team in the American Association, playing at the AA level as an independent partner league to the official MLB minor league appartus.

+ Tyler All Saints Episcopal sophomore Sydney Robertson finished tied for 13th at the inaugural First Tee National Championsip in Clemson, South Carolina on Thursday after shooting a three-round score of 234.  She was 10 over par and was one of seven Texans in the 24-girl field.  

A medalist at the TAPPS 4A state tournament in the spring, Robertson represented the First Tee - Greater Tyler chapter.  First Tee is a youth development organization dedicated to helping young people learn life skills and to build character through the game of golf.

+ Just six shots off the leader, The Woodlands Christian Academy's Jack Usner finished tied for eighth on a three-round total of 218 with three other golfers at the American Junior Golf Association's Insperity Invitational/Patrick Reed National Championship in The Woodlands Tuesday through Thursday.  

In the girls competition, Houston The Kinkaid School senior Allyn Stephens was third overall with a three-round total of 223, just seven over par as Montgomery HS graduation senior Remington Isaac scorched the field with a six-under-par score of 210.

+ Regents School of Austin athletic director Beck Brydon presented today with The Hillsdale Academy (MN) athletic director Mike Roberts "Coaching Coaches for a Mission-Aligned Athletic Program" at the Society for Classical Learning Annual Conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

+ Waco Reicher Catholic announced on Thursday that Darryl McCoy will return to become its new Boys Basketball Coach.  McCoy had previously led the Cougars to records of 23-14 and 25-9 in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons.

+ Houston The Kinkaid School alum and Mississippi State reliever Stone Simmons faced four hitters, giving up two hits and a run that brought Virginia back within a run in the bottom of the eighth - after the Bulldogs put a 6-spot up in the top of the inning, but Mississippi State held on to win 6-5 Tuesday night over the Cavaliers.

+ Former Dallas Jesuit hurler Jacob Palisch faced five Vanderilt batters in the sixth inning of the Cardinal's 6-5 loss to Vanderbilt Wednesday night in the College World Series.  Palisch got two outs, gave up two hits and hit a batter, but got out of the sixth inning otherwise unscathed.

+ Lubbock Trinity Christian student Kiley Irlbeck competed at the USA Gymnastics National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday in the trampoline and tumbling disciplines.  The school reported that Irlbeck was third in the trampoline to earn the bronze medal while taking sixth in the floor routine and double-mini trampoline competitions.

+ The 12th Man Foundation announced on Tuesday that it was welcoming Houston St. Pius X and Texas A&M wide receiver Chase Lane to its Collegiate Council.  Lane said, "I am elated to be a part of Collegiate Council because I will be able to see firsthand all of what the 12th Man Foundation does in order for us to be successful."
