LSCSN News and Notes; June 28, 2021

Houston The Kinkaid School alum Raevyn Rogers is headed to the Olympics in Tokyo after finishing second Sunday night in the 800 meters at the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Running a personal best time of 1:57.66, Rogers was sixth in the backstretch on the second lap, moved to fifth on the curve and then sprinted to the outside in Lane 2 to capture the runner-up spot behind Aggie sensation Athing Mu.

+ Former Addison Trinity Christian and University of Texas golfer Kramer Hickok battled threw an epic eight-hole playoff before losing by a stroke to Harris English at The Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.  Hickok, a teammate of Dallas Jesuit great Jordan Speith at Texas, hit his second shot 28 feet from the pin and two-putted while English landed his approach 12 feet closer and birdied.

It was Hickok's best finish on the PGA Tour, bettering a tie for eighth at the 2018 Bermuda Championship - his only other time in a top 10.  The eight-hole playoff was a record for the event, bypassing seven-hole playoffs in 1961 and 1962.  The longest playoff in PGA history, 11 holes, was in 1949 at the Motor City Open.

+ Three private and parochial school golfers competed at the AJGA Junior at Oldfield in Okatie, South Carolina this week.  The Woodlands Christian Academy senior Ethan Bridges shot five over par 221 to finish tied for 15th while Warriors teammate Jake Maggert, a junior, was five strokes back at 226.  Fort Worth Trinity Valley School sophomore Sam Bumgardner was tied for 33rd with a score of 232.

+ Former Dallas Bishop Lynch great and 2019 Texas Gatorade Player of the Year Endyia Rogers announced via Twitter Sunday afternoon that she had committed to the University of Oregon after a pair of seasons with the Trojans of the University of Southern California.

She played in and started all of USC's 54 games her two years finishing second on the team in scoring her freshman year with 13.1 ppg - on the strength of a team-high 44 three pointers - and leading the team her sophomore year with 14.8 ppg and another team-high 35 three balls.

+ The Woodlands John Cooper School sophomore Mahi Khurana finished second in the Boys 16s Singles divison of the USTA Texas The Texas Slam tournament in Georgetown from June 19-26.  Khurana lost to Noey Do in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.  Before that he entered the tournament seeded 15th, but won six straight matches, losing only one set along the way, to reach the finals against Do.

+ Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal alum and University of Central Arkansas sophomore IF A.J. Mendolia as well as Beaumont Kelly grad and Lamar University freshman outfielder Owen Sheldon were named to the Sunflower Collegiate League East All-Star Team that will play in the SCL Evergy All-Star Game on Monday, July 5, 2021.  Mendolia, who's batting .324 in 20 games, plays for the Wichita Sluggers while Sheldon, who's a member of the Sunflower Seeds, is hitting .308 in 14 contests.

+ Fort Worth THESA was represented in the 2021 Brazos Bowl Six-Man All-Star Game by Nathan Silvas and Parker Chandler.  They played on opposite teams.  Parker's Red team won 55-16.
