1954 SAL Baseball: Castroville '9' Wins SAL Title

SAN MARCOS, May 15 (ANS) - St. Louis High School (Castroville) won the state Southwest Academic League baseball title here Saturday afternoon by trimming Texas Military Institue (San Antonio) 7-3 in the finals.

St. Louis had advanced to the finals by walloping St. Edward's of Austin by a 17-1 margin Friday while TMI was blanking Muenster (Gainesville) by a 10-0 count.

Saturday morning Muenster nipped St. Edward's 1-0 for the third place position.

TMI won the swimming crown by scoring 61 points while Peacock (San Antonio) took second with 39 points.  St. Ed's was third with six points.

TMI also won the golf crown as its four-man team had a 451 total for 27 holes of golf.  Medalist was James King of TMI.  St. Ed's was second and Laneri (Fort Worth) third.
