SAN ANTONIO - St. Michael's Academy knocked off San Antonio's Holy Cross 6-5 to capture the TCIL state baseball crown on Saturday.
St. Michael's rapped out 15 hits to win the first game of the series 10-6 earlier in the day.
Pitcher Adam Alveres tossed a complete game and ripped a home run in the fifth inning to lead the Crusaders to their school's first state title and the first for Coach Calvin Schiraldi, a former Texas Longhorns player.
To reach the deciding series with the Knights, St. Michael's had to bounce back from a 15-5 loss to Holy Cross on Friday, then defeat St. Anthony 7-3 on Saturday in an elimination game.
