The Texas Catholic Interscholastic League state tennis and golf tournaments got under way here Thursday with tennis activity centering at the St. Edward's University courts and the golf action unfolding at Municipal Golf Course.
First and second matches unfolded in the tennis meet Thursday and quarterfinal, semifinal and final matches are due to be played Friday.
At Municipal Golf Course, St. Paul of Shiner has a one stroke lead in the drive for the team titles with an 18-hole total of 345. Bishop Lynch of Dallas is close behind at 346.
In the battle for medalist honors Skip Davis of Houston St. Thomas and Tom Fulton of Houston Strake Jesuit are tied at 82.
Friday 18 more holes of play are scheduled to wind up the golf tourney.
