1971 TCIL Golf: Dallas Jesuit Takes TCIL Golf Lead

Lee Carter tied for medalist honors and paced Dallas Jesuit to a seven-stroke lead Thursday in the first round of the Texas Catholic Interscholastic League golf tournament.

Carter and John Burke of Houston St. Thomas fired 70s to top the opening day's action as Jesuit's total of 308 bested St. Thomas' 315.

Burke Lane, a cousing of John Burke, son of pro golfer Jackie Burke, ended the round two strokes behind the medalist leaders at 72.

The tournament, which is being played at Municipal Golf Course, will finish Friday beginning at 8 a.m.  The team score is computed on a best four-out-of-five individual score system.

Team - Dallas Jesuit 308, Houston St. Thomas 315, San Antonio Central Catholic 323, Dallas Bishop Lynch 330, Wichita Falls Notre Dme 335, Beaumont Kelly 338, Houston Strake Jesuit 349.
